34 Ways You Can Make Money Online

Are you looking for inspiration about how to make money online? If you are at a loss and you do not know where to start then here is a guide for you with resources that will redirect you to legit websites only. Here are suggestions that I have tried and the rest are jobs I have wanted to work on, but could not. One has to buckle down and stick to just a few jobs because otherwise, you end up doing nothing at all.

If you love to read in your spare time, reviewing books is something that you must consider. Without any formal education, you can subscribe to the onlinebookclub.org the only catch is that your writing should be error-free. They, unlike other reviewing companies, do not have an editorial team to discuss your work and send it back for adjustments. Your reviews will only be scored, and then you will be paid. The payments due are always paid, but if your writing still has a lieu of errors, you will never access higher-paying opportunities. 2. Affiliate Marketing

With affiliate marketing, there are multiple ways in which you can make money. For those who may not know affiliate marketing is when you promote a product for a commission without any extra cost to your customers.


For this avenue, you either make a website storefront with links to the product, or you can join bloggers.com and promote your affiliate products in your blogs there. Furthermore, if you own a website promoting affiliate links is child play because there are many companies with affiliates attached to them. All you have to do is become an affiliate that coincides with whatever your niche is.

I have made a list of affiliate companies that you can sign up with according to what your content is but make sure to sift through your products for items that are reputable.

Even though I do have an affiliate account with Clickbank, some of their products are honestly terrible. That said there are many other products which I would love to buy myself. I write this warning because you do not want to add any and every product to your posts. You may experience a loss of readers due to a product that does not mesh with your content, or the products you put up are things you would find a waste of money.

So my best advice would be that you choose items that you like, and would purchase your self. When selecting affiliate links, pretend you are going to buy the product, this will make everything much more straightforward.

The biggest problem with Amazon is the commission you as an affiliate will earn is just 10%. Sometimes this is less or more but to make a real income with 10% commissions is quite tricky. ClickBank has a commission ratio of about 50-70%, so need I say more?

3. Website Building

If you are not a newbie like myself and you know how to design websites or perhaps build websites on WordPress, then this is a wonderful option for you.

You do not need to be a computer engineer for this one.

If you are an engineer, brilliant, but I made a perfectly functional website without coding. I used WordPress, WP plugins and my good common sense. For tech-savvy people who have dabbled in the world of website building, this is a money-making scene that makes you up to 2000$ per website. With the right skill set, you can do it.

Website building for cash can be extremely lucrative as many people would rather pay someone to make them a site rather than build it themselves.

4. Ads

Did you know that you can put ads on Pinterest? Although this is only for a few countries if you are eligible; make a business Pinterest account and set your Pinterest ads on today.

Of course, that is not all! You can make serious money with advertisements on your website. To start, apply to AdSense. It’s Free! When your website has over 25,000 monthly views then subscribe to Mediavine they pay much more! You can also get banner ads for your site so what are you waiting for!?

5. Voice Over

Do you have a good clear voice, and are you able to speak articulately? Is reading books a favourite pastime? If your answer is affirmative, then this is something you should consider.

It is a high paying job that you can easily do if you can read aloud coherently and clearly. There so many books that are begging to be converted into audiobooks, and this gig can make you an extra 2000$ a month.

The way to start is to make a Fiverr account and offer voice-overs. I recommend this solely for practice and experience. It could take you a month or longer to adjust to the requirements of this job. It takes 5-10 minutes to narrate a 1000 words, and a standard page is usually 250 words. An audio hour can take two hours to narrate vocally, but it can take a further 3 hours for editing, and if you work for Fiverr or Amazon you will have to edit your audiobook.

Although this may seem overwhelming at first with a little practice and if you can overcome the possible learning curve, this is a well-paid opportunity. You can make a monthly income and have fun doing so.

You will have to invest in a mic, and you will have to record your voice over in a soundless environment. Yep, my dogs bark like banshees so I’d just lock myself on the roof of my house. Find your spot.

The pay rate for beginners is 50$ per hour. After you have passed the beginner stage, you will make 100-500$ per hour.

The other site that you should look into is ACX they let you set your rate for voice actors, and like Fiverr you are exposed to many possible projects. Their site has a voice-over university you can enrol in for further knowledge. You can choose the style of books you like to read, and your profile should be built around it. Check it out here.

6. Editing

For does of you who may be unaware editors are paid and hired according to their experience and education, but many of us can edit all sorts of grammatical errors without a PhD in the field. So here are some job opportunities for all you word geeks out there.

For an aspiring editor, you will have to search the text for grammatical errors, adjusting writing style and the overall layout of the digital document. I have put up a list of sites that do not necessarily require higher education. Editing is a serious but lucrative route for cash.

7. Proofreading

You may be that person who reads blog posts, books and any other form of text all the while spotting tiny errors. In some cases, the errors are quite visible.

Many people know the message that they want to convey, but the delivery in a text can be utterly unreadable. So if you can spot grammatical errors while reading a book, why not make some money too. Proofreading is not only highly sought after, but it is incredibly lucrative as well. You can earn 52,000$ annually, so what are you waiting for?

Of course, a training course would be beneficial because there are many aspects of this business that you may be unaware of. Caitlin Pyle is a self-made entrepreneur who has made different courses for different styles of proofreading. She covers the groundwork in what your skills are and how to enhance them, furthermore, she will map out all the inside tips you will need for marketing yourself.

Cutting a long story short, after you have completed one of her courses, you will be closer to making your hobby a full-time income. 8. Transcription

Did you know that you can earn up to 20$ an hour transcribing all sorts of audio? If you do not mind listening to a podcast, webinar, someone recording data, and so much more while you type out precisely what they say then transcription is the field of work for you. Like proofreading, this is a lucrative business as there are always job opportunities available.

Janet Shaughnessy, who started her medical transcription career in 2007, she has a free mini-course that you can learn the essentials from. I am going to enrol in her course because firstly it is free. Secondly, transcription is a gig I want to try too.

You might be thinking that you cannot type a hundred words a second. Put your fears aside because typing speed comes with practice, and the more you learn, the better you will be at it. There is a website called transcibeme.com that hires beginners. So if you want to jump right in try it.


9. Writing

Writers can earn money writing blog posts, ebooks, and so much more. If you are an aspiring writer, then try to put yourself on the market in more than one place. The fact is that there is a demand for writers, but you have to be seen, heard and found.

For this there are a number of techniques you should try. Join a Facebook group of writers.

Make a website, and write about whatever you are passionate about, show off your writing skills and add a hire me page with your rates. A good marketing trick is to offer a free 2000 word document of anything to your prospective clients. Once you get customers, change this offer as it could be counterproductive. I think making your website is the best way for any entrepreneurship business because you work and get paid fully. It may take time, but in the end, it is worth the wait.

The other options are Upwork, Flexjobs and Fiverr. On these sites, you can create your profile and tell people what type of writing you can do for them. It is a more direct approach and even though the starting rates can be incredibly low you do get promotions that make you eligible to earn more.


10. Playing Games

If you read this heading and thought you can make serious cash by just playing some random games online just don’t bother reading anymore. If you want to make serious cash playing games it is a little more complicated.

You can become a game tester which means you will be given a game to play, and you will have to play it in every way possible to try and find bugs. This sounds simple, but it takes time, patience and an eye for glitches. The pay rate is over 60,000$ annually, so that is the good news!

You could just play games on youtube and comment on them like PewDiePie. Before you roll your eyes and say you cannot beat his views, hold on. You do not have to have that many views to make money on youtube. If you are smart enough to look up the latest trending games and play them while giving a live commentary, you can earn well.

Of course, you could start a gaming blog or podcast too. Youtube is a great place to make money because it is visual. I am always watching a video about something or the other there and honestly so are you! So make full use of this if talking on camera is something you do not mind trying. Just voice your videos without your profile in the video and maybe when you feel, confident you can come on screen one day—for this try being helpful. Like if you play Fortnite, show people new tricks and things to do. If I took gaming seriously, I would watch your videos. Just do it and see what happens.

Compete in gaming tournaments, I would never have put this as a suggestion because honestly, it sounds too much like a gamble. Why? Well you do have to win the tournament to actually get the money. Still, I added this because someone I know won half a million dollars in some game tournament. Ugh!

11. Data Entry

If you do not have a formal education, but you are proficient with a computer, Microsoft Word, Excel and you have a rapid typing speed; this is a great field of work to look into. If you are wondering what data entry entails then listen up.

Data entry can be many things, but in essence, you will have to enter data into a company’s database. The data can be numeric or text. In some cases, it could be written work that you will have to type out in google docs or Microsoft Word. You may also receive an audio file, which you will have transcribe.

Please be warned, finding a good data entry job can take time. Also, beware of scams. I tried data entry, and then I realized that it was a scam. Even data entry companies will warn you about scammers. So be careful with your bank account.

Some data entry jobs can get you 10-20$ per hour. For the higher-paying jobs, you will need at least two years of experience in data entry. You can sign up with Clickworker, Flexjobs and Fiverr for freelance data entry to get the required experience. You will initially work for pennies, but with the background, you can then be eligible to apply for well-paid data entry jobs.

  • Clickworker, they pay you for small jobs and they are a legitimate site.
  • Flexjobs, is another great place for small gigs.
  • Fiverr, has a starting rate of 5$ and as you do more work and as with all things, if you build your portfolio, you can earn thousands of dollars with them.

The three sites I have mentioned above are ideal for you to get the lay of the land. On these sites, you will do freelance work from home, and you can pocket the experience needed for applying to well-paid jobs. If you already have the experience, then here are a list of sites that may hire you for data entry.


12. Make And Sell Videos

If you have a smartphone with a great camera ( or a great camera 😉 ), you can take small videos that are just a few seconds long and sell them on Shutterstock. It is a website that you can sign up with for free and upload short videos with an HD camera. Here is a link to their page on how to make money with them.

A key point to remember is that you cannot upload your videos from your phone.

You will get a royalty for every photo downloaded and after your video has been downloaded more than 500 times your royalties are doubled per video.

You may be thinking, “who on earth is going to buy tiny videos, and why do they want to?” Well, YouTubers, bloggers, and other freelancers all want to buy videos that are not copyrighted. In some cases, they want to purchase the rights from you, so there! I am a prospective buyer, too, as I am aware of copyright infringement. If you like filming, go for it!


13. Take photographs

Again you can upload your photographs at shutterstock but hold on there are more. Here is a list of websites.

  • 500px Prime
  • SmugMug Pro
  • iStockPhoto has an affiliate plan as well, so if you have a photography website, you can use their affiliate link. Ever noticed the “powered by Getty images” underneath a photograph online? Well here is your chance to work with them.

  • Pond5
  • Adobestock

Some years ago I had a Nokia smartphone which had a fantastic camera. I love taking pictures, so I took a picture of an almond blossom up close (from a tree in my home 😉 ). I uploaded it to my pc and made it my home screen background. It was such a high-quality picture that I could see the fuzzy stuff on the flower that I could never have seen otherwise. Of course, when I presented it to my mother, she said it was beautiful. It was!

So the question is if an average Joe like me can take photos like that so many years ago, what can you do with the technology of today?


14. Tutoring

With the current quarantine, that does not seem to be letting up, any time soon. Tutoring online is in high demand. Still, the world is full of youngsters wanting to learn and needing a tutor. For this job patience, the knowledge of how to teach, and some education is required.

My brother made serious money all his years in university up until he got a full scholarship. He is a great teacher, and you can be just like him.

Online tutors can earn anywhere from 10-60$ an hour. If you have a PhD, you will make much more, but even college students can earn a handsome income teaching kids. Students can be from kindergarten till college sophomores, so do not worry about having to teach people too small or otherwise. Here is a list of websites you can look through.


15. Sell Printables

When I first came across this business idea on Pinterest, my first thought was “what on earth are printables?”. Well, we live, and we learn! Printables are a sub-form of print on demand, and it is a digital, downloadable copy of something you designed for sale. You can design calendars, meal planners for weight loss, stickers, and journals. Forgive me because I am sure there is more.

You can make a passive income with printables, and I recommend designing meal planners for weight loss. Everyone wants to lose a few pounds at some time in their life; moreover, a keto meal plan can be essential for someone on a keto diet.

Use Canva as your free online software for designing your printables. I use Canva for all sorts of design. It is free and unbelievably easy to use.

Make an Etsy store to sell your printables. Alternatively, you can make a store on Shopify. The only other third and legit way of selling your printables online are if you make a website, market yourself and sell your printables directly from there. There is a learning curve here as you would have to build a woo commerce store, but do not be afraid, WordPress has a plugin for everything.


16. Print On Demand

Have you ever bought a T-shirt online from websites like Amazon, Redbubble or Teespring? If you have not made such a purchase, I am here to tell you that you can make money by merely designing T-shirts, mugs, phone covers and leggings. You can sign up with any of these sites and make your store, develop your product and then share your creations on social media for more advertisement.

Signing up is free. You do not need to be a graphic designer to make some great designs, furthermore many of the top-selling T-shirts just have simple text printed on them.

You will need to search for trending topics and sayings to use, this ensures that the text you use is typed into the search of Amazon. Teespring or Redbubble. It is all about getting found on the internet.

Do not spend any money on this job. Make full use of Canva as they have a vast selection of templates for designing anything. The best part is that it is free! Even graphic designers say “if you aren’t making money, do not spend more on design software.” Sure after you have made some money, you could get the pro version of Canva, but until then stick to the free version.

If you are creative, you can sign up with Adobe Creative Cloud, they have a one-month free subscription, but this is a tool only for graphic designers. Self-taught or professional! I am not a graphic anything so when I signed up with Adobe CC the entire month was wasted on me.

Unlike Printify, Teespring, Amazon and Redbubble handle the cost of the making, marketing and shipping for you; the profit made from each sale is what you earn.

Success is based on the niche you pick ( whether it is selling or not ), what are the items you print on, and persistence. Things to remember are as follows:

Find a niche that is trending or will be trending. For example, you can use google trends to find a trending topic and design your product with that theme in mind. My Teespring store is based on steampunk. You can also make T-shirts based on the following season or for graduates. The list is endless.

The items you choose to design should be things which people buy often. Would you by a mug every month? I do not even like mugs, but T-shirts and leggings are things that I can never have enough of. So make a store with leggings or T-shirts, or a store with both.

Every design you make will not be successful, but some of your items could make repeated sales, so do not worry. What you must remember is persistence is vital. Make designs as often as possible and be consistent. Your financial independence may be a few T-shirts away.


17. Answer Surveys

If you have a long commute or are bored at home, you can try taking surveys. This is a low everything job. You do not need an education; it does not take hours at a time and is quite easy to do. All you have to do is sign up with the following sites:

These three pay you actual money, not points. After signing up with many survey sites, I found that these paid better than most. Online, many people recommend Swagbucks, but their site page always has issues, and other times it just won’t open! I could rant on for two pages but let’s just say it did not work for me and that is why I do not recommend it.


18. Flip Domain Names

If you are techier than me and you want to make money selling things for a higher cost then buying and selling domain names is profitable. The downside of this hustle is that you need to invest. Yep, I usually try to promote free ideas.

Anyway domain flipping is a legit online business. Here are two resources you can use to fully understand this field of work.


19. Graphic Design

Are you an artistic personality? Do you design graphics in your spare time? Well, you can make real money by selling your work online. If you are wondering if people will purchase your designs, then I’m here to tell you they absolutely will. Your designs could be bought for a site logo, print on demand T-shirt, a company logo and more.

You can make a website and use it to find people that want to buy graphics. I strongly recommend DesignHill

As a graphic designer, you can join them and also enter their contest. This is an excellent way of getting yourself noticed because finding clients is the hardest part in this field of work.

Lastly Fiverr is another option to check out.


20. Youtube Videos

Making a video may sound daunting at first, and if you are camera shy like myself, then you can just voice-over the video you make. YouTube is extremely lucrative because it is visual, and millions of people watch videos there. When I want to learn a new recipe, how to plant a lemon tree, WordPress tutorials, permalinks, ( should I go on? ) I always watch a YouTube video on the subject. You can make money with youtube, and the possibilities are incredible.

You may think that you have nothing to share but trust me every human being can share something that others are willing to learn from. You can make your videos with your smart phone. Just review your videos for sound and lighting.

Need some ideas? Try how to:

  • groom your pets
  • the weight you lost with the keto diet
  • places you have been, the culture you experienced, the traditions you saw etc.
  • gardening, planting, weeding, natural weed killer, the best plants for indoors etc.
  • drawing, painting, colouring, stencil, shading etc.
  • a cough you got over and how you got over it ( seriously if you have a natural cure for a cough please let me know! ) other natural remedies for acne, hair growth etc.
  • read, write, solve math problems, a history lesson, etc.
  • play any musical instrument
  • review products

I could give you hundreds of prompts because there are millions of ideas out there for you to choose from.

Like all my essential topics, you must decide on a niche that you are knowledgeable about, passionate about and stick to it. Make a video series so that people come back for more.

Put your heart into your work so that it is the best it can be. Do not give up after a few months! I have reviewed many YouTubers who said it could sometimes take a year or four years, but one youtube video can become a source of passive income. So please take the dive.


21. Write An Ebook

You can write a story that has been having trilogies in your head, but you always thought that no one would read it. Stop putting yourself down! Write the story! If novels are not your genre, then write an ebook about something that someone else wants to know.

It could be about:

  • parental advice,
  • motherhood,
  • cooking,
  • gardening,
  • how to earn money from home,
  • how to install programs,
  • how to do well in college,
  • how you earned a little extra cash when you were studying,
  • the best places to buy clothes on a budget,
  • marital advice,
  • how to take care of elderly people,
  • how to care of people with serious illnesses,

The list can go on forever. You can write about anything, whether it is a story about an alien invasion or how you were not able to get an education because you took care of your ailing parent, sibling or child. People will read what you write because not only do some people feel a sense of comradery, but they learn all sorts of helpful ideas that will make their life better in some way.

On Createspace, you can self publish your ebook. If you like writing romantic novels, then put up your books on Wattpad, Radish and Anybooks. Anybooks has a 1000$ prize every year for writing competitions, so start writing. Apart from Createspace, the other three sites are book applications that I use. I can tell you that for all the bookish people like myself these are our lifesavers. Why? Firstly because they are entirely free ( except Anybooks which has recently put up a once in a lifetime cost, which is 5$ ), and secondly you can make a fan base on these apps, which is fantastic because the more they read your books, the more chances you have of high sales.

All these sites have a payment method. You can make people pay you per book or chapter. If you write novels etc. then put up the first one for free and put up the sequels for some cash. Make an audience by promoting your writing in social media and forums related to your writing. Books are always read, and if you have a flair for writing, don’t waste your gift on your insecurities! I believe in you!

I end this topic with this surprising fact, J. K. Rowling was told by a publisher who refused to publish Harry Potter, “you will never become rich writing children’s stories”. Well, guess who is eating a slice of humble pie now!


22. Make A Digital Course

Unlike an ebook making and selling a digital course can be more lucrative than an ebook. If you have a skill that you can put into a digital course, then this can make you thousands of dollars every year for the rest of your time on this beautiful planet! Some bloggers merge all of their blogs to make a digital course; other people write out their youtube tutorials.

A digital course is like a textbook because you are teaching the person who buys your course something; so you have to have a cohesive training in written text ( with or without images ), webinars or a combination of both. An important note to remember, you are primarily teaching, so your customer should walk away with “all they need to know about opening a small business” or whatever it is you choose to teach.

I guess I saved the best for last! Depending on your course material, experience; and how well you make your course you can make anywhere from 5-50$ or 250-500$ each. So yeah folks, there is money to be made!


23. Write Funny Articles Cracked.com

I am still subscribed to them! Cracked.com is an online comedy magazine. They are always hiring writers and if you can make memes made in a list form, like ten Hollywood actors who look like their wives, ( I’m laughing already! ). Or write an article written in list form then Cracked is where you can make money while cracking up. He he he……

You can get a really nice 150- 250$ per article and I hope they do not get upset that I mentioned this iddy biddy fact.

24. Sell Crafts That You Make On Etsy

I wish I had access to Etsy when I was a teen embroidering frames and knitting sweaters for my nephews, nieces and cat! DO not laugh at me! 😉

If you can make:

  • dream-catcher bracelets,
  • any kind of bracelet,
  • crochet bonnets for adults or baby stuff,
  • knitted sweaters, socks, scarfs, gloves,
  • graduation party decorations
  • baby shower paraphernalia
  • hand made jewellery
  • etc. etc. etc.

If you are a talented person in any handy craft you can set up an Etsy store and start selling your crafts. Again pick one and only one subject matter. Make a variety of things and use Pinterest to drive people to your store as well.


25. Research Assistance

For all the tech-savvy internet gurus who can research anything online, this one is for you!

Askwonder is a legitimate site with whom you can earn up to 2000$ each month. This website works as an online personal assistant on the World Wide Web. If you can research analytics etc. and get a 99% correct answer, you will do well here.

It is recommended that you complete at least one job a week so that you get promoted to do higher-paying research, and if you have any prior research experience, then your chances of being hired will be doubled.


26. Reviews Trailers and Movies On Netflix

Sadly they do not always have an opening for this gig because there are too many lazy people who want to make money in the easiest way possible. Still, you can make money with this one, and unlike Swagbucks, payments are more satisfactory.

Netflix should give this job to teens only for some pocket money because if you are older, you should dream big, start small and work hard. I only put this one up because the pay is good and some people can benefit from it as a part-time side job.


27. Become A Podcast Host

Have you ever listened to a podcast on youtube? I do all the time because there is so much to learn and honestly not enough time to learn it all. So I just search up podcasts about topics that interest me and things I want to understand better.

For all you people like my teenage self who only listened to music with earphones, please stop. If you want to learn more about anything, but like everybody on the planet, you cannot stop time then listen up.

If you already know what a podcast is, just skip to the next paragraph. Anyhoo. “A digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, available as a series, new instalments of which can be received by subscribers automatically,” folks that is a podcast.

You can start a podcast and interview people on YouTube. The recording can be just an audio file or an audio-video file. Make a podcast with people who are either famous for something, or you could start a podcast series with:

  1. a friend who is an entrepreneur,
  2. a student chancellor ( you can interview him about how he advises parents to talk to troubled children,
  3. If you like reading books by someone who is not hugely famous, but write really epics books on Wattpad ask them if you can interview them on their upcoming stories etc. ,
  4. make a podcast series in which you interview five bloggers, and ask them to share a few key tips on blogging,
  5. single mothers and their tips on how to balance work and take care of their children on a low budget,
  6. single fathers and how they manage on a low budget,

You can make a podcast about anything, and the best part is that you get paid to do it. If you are interested in gaming ( #myfavoritegamegardenwarfare ), then make a podcast on Twitch. For this, you will need the ability to talk if you have this superpower then go for it!


28. Work For Apple On Chat Support

The good news is that Apple will provide an iMac and headset for you if you get the job. The bad news ( for some people ) you need a high-speed internet that has a 10 Mbps download speed and 3 Mbps for uploads. All you need to know is right here FAQ-Apple At Home Advisor.

29. Become A Mystery Shopper

So if you like shopping over the phone then this is something you should try. Mystery shopping is a good side job, but it is not ideal for a full time job. This is a great job for stay at home mothers and fathers, students and really anyone wanting to make some extra money.

Beware of scammers! Apart from doing a little research before applying to any mystery shopper company, the best way to find out if there is “something rotten in the state of Denmark.” Read reviews online and if they ask you to pay for some fee or certificate before you have done a job it is a scam!

Here are a few that hire mystery shoppers for over-the-phone shopping:

Your job will be to do searches with certain words, and you will have to write reviews based on your searches. If your reviews are not informative enough, they can be rejected, and you will receive fewer job opportunities until you write more thorough reviews.

The pay starts at $14 an hour and you have a 20 hour a week limit.

Lionbridge recommends college students for this job as it can make them money from wherever they are.
