Best Blog Topics vs Most Popular

There is such a chasm between these two types of blogs. Popular blogs are harder or sometimes impossible to break into whereas the best blog topics are overlooked but easy to dominate.

The best blog topic is something you are interested in, and it is not a saturated niche. The most popular blogs are news, fashion, personal finance, and cooking. If you are looking for a good blog topic, then just go to your recently searched bar and look for things you have searched multiple times, but you never really found a satisfying answer. When choosing a blog topic for your website, it is essential to remember that you want to write about a topic that has not been covered by a lieu of webmasters already, because it is then easier to dominate that topic and make a place for yourself online.

Consequently when you choose a popular topic for your very first website the chances for your success is minimal.

This website has affiliate links that I earn a commission from without any extra cost to you. This means that if you click on a link and purchase something, I might make a little money. You will not be charged extra, and some of the affiliate links I use have discounts so stay tuned!

Why are the most popular blog topics are a bad idea

Popular topics are always the first to go and, huge websites have taken them. Why would you want to read Bob’s blog over CNN or BBC? Why would you read a recipe for pasta by some random new website when you could read up authentic Italian recipes by Laura Vitale? Recipes, money-making gigs, news and tech, are a few of the most overdone topics online, because of this, it is difficult to write your new twist on these topics.

Keyword research is a nightmare because all the keyword terms are taken. Just try typing a recipe and see how many people have done it already. At one time it was all the rave to bake at home because of quarantine and so many people put up recipes that required very few ingredients. Seriously, I just skip the recipes for chocolate cake that have no sugar, no oven, no chocolate and no eggs. Ugh! Just eat mud!

There are many well-written blogs about each of these topics, and honestly, I sometimes wonder how Google chooses which articles get first place at the top of their search pages. Because so many of them are top-notch!

Moreover, it is incredibly hard to make authoritativeness with Google. With the current algorithm searching your site for things like a legit “about page”, how often you post blogs, how long do visitors stay on your website and credibility that can be in many forms!

What are the best blog topics

It could be that you are only interested in a over saturated topic like recipes, (I know I am and it is one of the most searched topics on my YouTube and Google search results), but seriously look harder and find something else!

If I started a new blog, it definitely would not be a popular niche topic, and if I did pick a popular niche, then I would magnify my search into that topic. An example would be if you love animals then a website about pet-care would be an excellent idea, but be careful, if you base your website around animal treatment you will have a hard time ranking with google. There are two reasons for this, and the first is pet MD, why would someone come to you for medical advice on their pets when pet MD has a vet behind the website? The second reason is that Google’s algorithm will be equally discriminating of your site because they will want credibility.

Of course, there are two simple solutions to these problems. If you have had a lot of experience with a particular pet and you think you can dominate a website with your knowledge, then write your articles. Get a certified vet to review them and then publish them with a mini discloser about the fact that a vet has approved your writing. In this way, Google will be satisfied that your content is legitimate, and after a significant amount of reader’s have visited and revisited your site. Google is going to rank your pages.

Furthermore, if you are passionate about animals, but do not want to start a medical-related website, then you can also make a website about specific dog breeds. You could build your site on all number of animals. The key to remember in all this is that before you start, check the competition. Make Google searches to see what topics have been missed or are not covered thoroughly.

To conclude, the best blog topic is something people want to know, but it has not been written about yet, or it has not been written about to its full potential yet. If you are feeling stumped for ideas just think back to things you have made Google searches for but never found a satisfactory answer to, you can find many ideas and possibilities in your Google search history.

How to do keyword research to find the best blogging topic

Firstly forget any and all keyword research tools! Just do Google searches for the topic you are interested in, and look to see if the result has a full page of incredibly informative websites explaining all the subject matter in detail. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page, and look at the list of what “people also search for” or “related searches”. In this way, you will get an idea on search volume and what people are searching for.

If you use any keyword tool, they have a limited amount of information on search volume, trends etc. Alternatively, Google is a massive keyword research tool ripe for the taking and at the fantastic cost of free, you can use this method innumerable times without any cost. At the advice of my favourite millionaire entrepreneurs Jim Harmer and Ricky Kesler, I stopped using keyword research tools a long time ago. Making Google searches has worked wonderfully for me, for them, and it will work for you too! Keyword research tools are more of a crutch than support or help, so forget all about them!

How do blog topics rank with Google

Google is upgraded more often than you may think, furthermore, the algorithm set in place will observe your website value in a number of ways.

If a reader visits your site do they leave unsatisfied and make another search for the same topic, or do they leave satisfied with your post?

When a user reads your blog post and does not make a repeated search for something else on the same topic, this behaviour indicates that the content in your post is unsatisfactory. When Googles deems your content unsatisfactory, it will rank your page lower and lower, but if your reader’s found the information they were looking for, and this happened multiple times, your pages will rank higher. Because Google will think wow you write helpful content for readers.

When a visitor surfs your site do they read your post till the end or do they scroll a little and then leave before they have read it properly? By scrolling quickly through a web page and then leaving never to return can mean your reader was unsatisfied and it is for this reason that you optimize the quality of your content for excellent user experience.

Is the content on your site well written? Grammatical mistakes are not good, but they should not be an issue nowadays because, with the help of free tools like Grammarly, you can quickly curb silly grammatical errors.

Does the content on your website contain useful, helpful information, or is it mostly copy-pasted? It is not essential to make a 100% original content, but you mustn’t copy-paste text onto your site. Google wants fresh content and not a rerun of someone else’s work. So write about a topic that has been written about already but does not copy it to the letter.

Final thoughts

I wrote this blog post because when I was looking for a blogging niche, I read blog after blog on popular niches. I thought I could dominate a site about a money-making niche. Without any prior knowledge about SEO and how in essence these are evergreen topics that everyone wants to read about but they are over-saturated till doomsday.

So when you make a search about a niche site remember that the popular topics are not always the best. I hope that anyone looking to create their website is better informed than I was, and I hope this post helped you further.
