How Often Should You Blog For SEO
Blogging smogging is what I say, just kidding! Many people get hung up on this point, to blog or not to blog and how much blogging should we do? There are many variables about how often you should blog. The easy and straightforward truth about blogging is the more blogs, the better. When 97% of websites are failures, it can be hard to be part of the successful 3%.
How often you write a blog depends on how many writers you have for your site. If you are the sole writer, then you should write at least one blog post a day. Do not be frighted by this but you should write frequently. The best practice is to write two blogs each day and publish your blogs consistently.
This website has affiliate links that I earn a commission from without any extra cost to you. This means that if you click on a link and purchase something, I might make a little money. You will not be charged extra, and some of the affiliate links I use have discounts so stay tuned!
How often should you publish a blog
I would say as often as possible but realistically speaking, most people struggle with posting one blog a week. If you want to stay relevant to search engines like Google, you have to put in the work.
If you have a team of people to write for your website then publishing a post twice a day is easy peezy, but if you are your own content writer then publishing posts continuously is more challenging.
When you are just starting out then think about writing an average of 50 posts each month for three months. You will be writing almost two posts a day. If you have already achieved a hundred and fifty blog post portfolio, then try to write one blog a day. Alternatively, strive to write two blogs a day and if you can, three blogs a day.
You might think I am crazy but you can do this because blogging gets easier the more you do it, and I know this through first-hand experience. I used to think writing one blog a week was too much. After some practice, you will be able to write a two-thousand-word post in an hour or two.
How to blog consistently
I do have a post with tips and tricks you can use to blog consistently but here is a quick run down:
- make a blog plan on your smartphone or on paper
- do your keyword research beforehand, with sub-headings for each keyword blog heading
- set up an accountability partner
- listen to podcasts about the things you blog about so that you stay motivated
- set up reminders
- wake up an hour or two early and write in the morning when you are fresh
Starting a website is like starting a business or becoming a farmer. You will have to put in a great deal of work before you see results. So stay motivated!
How to avoid burn out
If you ever feel exhausted with the consistent pressure of maintaining a blog while dealing with everything else life entails then try some of the following:
- do something you enjoy once a day
- take a blog holiday once a month ( on this day do not even visit your site for a check-up )
- get some fresh air and go outside in the sun ( staying in front of the screen can promote depression while sunlight can work as an antidepressant )
- talk to people
- I saved the worst for last, switch off all your devices for at least two hours each day!
How is the consistency of your blog schedule affecting your SEO
Google is always judging websites with a few pointers. Firstly they want to know if you have something that is valuable to the World Wide Web. Secondly, they want to know how often you will add content to your site. Furthermore, how authoritative are you?
Value is measured in several ways, but if you are objective, about how you blog, you will find success. An example would be that you should make your blogs in a way that they are answering questions clearly and helpfully. We all use Google like a FAQs forum. If you have heard people ask questions just to have, someone answer saying “just Google it” then you already understand this.
So when you are writing a title for your post, write it like this, “how to make the best cupcakes” not like the following sentence, “my favourite cupcake recipe.” Most people type the words “how-to“, “why is” and “what are” as the first words of their search, because people want answers and solutions to their problems. They do not want your opinion unless you are a celebrity of some sort; your opinion is irrelevant online. However, this can and will change after you have developed a sense of authoritativeness and trust with your readers.
Make your blogs clear and each post should have a complete answer to whatever question it is answering.
Adding content to your website consistently will convince Google that you are an active member who is being helpful online. No one wants an employee who will only come to work for a day or two each month. Moreover, how can anyone be thoroughly helpful with only five blogs on any subject? Be prepared to write a hundred post about the subject of your website, more but never less.
Website authoritativeness does not necessarily mean you need a college degree, but you should have a compelling about page that states your capabilities or how you are learning a hobby. So start small and work towards the top of the ladder, if you do have qualifications be sure to mention them too.
How to get blog content ideas to stay consistent
I sometimes use a website called Portent’s Content Idea Generator, which is a free idea generating tool. It is not ideal, but it does work sometimes. Another way to stay bursting with ideas is to look at your website and ask yourself “if I was a beginner, what questions would I be asking?” The questions you come up with are blog post titles, so write them down for later. Unless you already have a vast following, you will be writing for beginners because professionals already have the answers.
Look around for ideas, and you do not always have to be positive about your topic. So if you write about fishing, fifty people have already covered a fishing rod company that is “the best”. You have maybe had a bad experience with it, then write about why no one should buy the rod. People like to know the downside of the things they purchase too.
So write positive and negative posts that are like the following, “5 of the best fishing techniques, why they work”, or “4 horrible fishing rods, what to buy instead”. It is always good to make an alternative suggestion when making negative articles because people will be happy to find a solution in your reasoning.
How consistency means more money
The reason many bloggers will advise you to blog consistently is that the more blog posts you have, the more money you will make. This is true, but there are some factors to it that I want to talk about.
Posting one blog a month is just like making one job application to one company. Alternatively writing one blog a day is like applying to thirty companies each month. The more you write and publish online, the higher your viewership will be, and for your website to be successful, you need as many viewers as possible.
Monetising your website usually means Ads, affiliates and something you are selling online. Some people will choose just one of these options, and others will use two or more monetisation actions. Whatever you may settle on the more people visiting your site the money you make. So write more!
How quality content is more important than quantity
Many people start a blog half-heartedly just to experience burnout, which is common since we all have a busy life to live. So as time passes, we become less enthusiastic about the side project we hope will one day become a full-time income. You must stay ahead of the game and publish a blog every day, but if you slack on the quality of your blogs, then blog less frequently.
Every blog should have a quality standard, and your quality standard should improve as time goes on. If you shoot out cruddy blog posts which are badly written or poorly formatted, then your website will suffer the consequences.
Of course, the best thing to achieve is a quality blogs post once a day. It may take time before you become comfortable writing consistently. When I first started, it all seemed too hard, but after working away for three months, I finally was able to write and post one article a day.
Writing short articles that are only 1500-2500 words each is easy and doable within a single day. However, writing a 4000-5000 word post takes at least eight hours to write. The first time I wrote a 6000 word post, it took me an entire week to write.
Final thoughts
Most of us have different methods of how we find a way to work consistently for success. Find what works for you and be part of the successful minority, not the lazy majority.
Set small milestones for yourself each week, then it will be easier to complete the tasks you planned to accomplish. If you make massive lists and a blog plan for a month or more, you may eventually do nothing. Because the work will seem like a mammoth you have to defeat. Whereas if you have a weekly goal that you complete, you will feel like you are getting somewhere.
Maybe you will not write exactly 150 posts in three months, but if you have written 100 in three months pat yourself on the back! You have done a great job! Chin up everyone.
