Is Backlinking Better Than Content

For those who have no idea what backlinks are (link building), it is a link from another site to your website. The algorithm of Google looks at the links that are on your website to decipher the quality of your website and the websites that link to your site. If an authoritative website like Forbes links to your website, then Google will rank your website higher because it will see the quality link as a vote.

Content is better than link building because when you as a site owner add more content to your website, you are adding more credibility to your site by default. The more you research and write for your blog, the more you learn about the topic you are writing about. Link building is a good way to rank in search engines, but you should do it the right way. The best way to build links is by making original and high-quality content.

Content is king and why this will never change

You may have heard the phrase ‘content is king’ before, and the reason people say this is because it correlates with Googles’ core purpose online. Over the years, Google has improved its search engine to serve up quality and accurate responses to any and all search queries. A blog is, in essence, a response to someone’s questions online, so if you can write a full answer to the question, then you will definitely rank for that search term.

Google has a YouTube channel about all sorts of problems bloggers online may face. They have clearly said that for ranking content is king.

Quality content will always be the most essential part of blogging because that is exactly what Google wants for its users. The better the content, the better the user experience, and it is that simple. Think of it like this; Google is an online encyclopedia that wants updated and detailed content, accurately written and from reliable sources.

Backlinks are bad because…

Because of the amount of time, it takes to get backlinks, and they can harm your reputation in the long term, so why waste your time. Link building via writing posts for other major websites, instead of your site, is like investing in someone else’s business instead of your business.

Backlinks are also bad because Google will quickly realise that your link-building is an attempt to fool the search engine into believing your site is more relevant. After six months, the algorithm will have assessed the value of the content on your site, and they will then put you lower in rankings. Wherever your site belongs, and this is why it is so important to focus on quality content for your website.

Google has actual people who assess websites for all number of things, and they will catch everything that the algorithm missed. Remember you are essentially trying to fool one of the biggest and wealthiest companies of the world.

Backlinks are good for…

Link building done right is fantastic for your blogs SEO if you get backlinks the kosher way. The only known way to get links to your website without grovelling for them, from big enterprise like bloggers, is to make something so useful on your site that other websites will link to your site automatically.

Now you may be wondering “how on earth can I do this I just started my blog etc.” It is, in fact, quite simple all you have to do is what other people are lazy about. In whatever niche your blog is based upon, broad or otherwise, contact the experts in your niche and collect statistics on something useful.

Make your website not a random Bob’s proverbial blog, but a useful resource. In this way, you will get other bigger websites to link to your website for your stats. Your content should be meaty, informative and extremely helpful to whoever reads it. The website you own should be user friendly, and your priority should be to please your audience, not Google.

Most people think they need to fool the algorithm to get rankings, but all you need to do is be really passionate about what you write. Because if you are passionate about your niche, you will be able to write non-stop about it without having any trouble. In 2005 people used to write 600 words per post but things have changed since then. Nowadays, the average blog is 1500 hundred words long, and most blogging gurus recommend 2500 words per post.

Is content or link building better for SEO

With everyone screaming SEO this and backlinking that, you already know that link building is a highly recommended practice for SEO. To be straightforward good quality content and quality websites linking to your website are both excellent for SEO, but what most beginner bloggers do not understand is that you need to make excellent content and the backlinks will find you.

So from an SEO standpoint if you have written 100 blogs about one topic, these massive helpful posts, then you will definitely rank better than someone else who has written only twenty articles on the same topic. Bloggers who have spent more time trying to get backlinks will obviously fall short on content quantity and content quality.

The three and dangerous types of backlinks

Back in the day, there were three types of link building. They were known as the white hat link building, grey hat link building and black hat link building.

White hat links were when you write guest posts for big websites in exchange for them linking to your site. This sounds easy, but most big websites would not accept the offer, and after you requested many, many websites the ones you would get accepted by were not worth the trouble. Because if the site is not authoritative, then the link is of low quality.

Grey hat link building is when you pay a site so that you can guest post on their website. Again it would take your valuable time to write the post and your money.

Black hat link building is quite ugly! Some people will hide keywords inside a website so that the algorithm will see something different from the user. Yep, it gets worse, and I am not writing any more on the topic!

Nowadays white hat link building is merging into grey and black hat link building. What once was a tactic to rank really well is no longer applicable to SEO today. Take my advice guys just concentrate on your content and your website because great content and a nice website won’t be ignored for long. Also, remember that you are not being ignored, but Google does take a year to find your websites rightful place online.

Final thoughts

Backlinking is not what you may think, and I hope that I have correctly shed light on the topic. Beware because not everyone online has your best interest at heart, and they might be misleading you intentionally or unintentionally.

You might be feeling stuck in the mud because you wrote up these 30 awesome posts, and you published them on your amazing website, only to find that tumbleweeds are rolling around. No one seems to visit your site. My dear friend, we have all been there, even though it may seem as though you have failed you have not at all failed. Just give your website time on the search engines, and in the meantime keep up your posting game!
