ProBlogger vs Upwork

Both websites are legitimate sites for writers to find work. For people looking for writers, you do have to pay $70 on ProBlogger to put up your ad. For Upwork, 3% of all transactions between you and the freelance writers is the ongoing cost. There are four different job posting options on Upwork. The biggest difference between both sites is that Problogger does not charge more than the first payment of putting up your ad, and a freelancer does not pay for anything before and after they are hired. Alternatively, Upwork will deduct 20% of your first $500 earned.

These are two websites that you can apply to for hiring writers and writers can find work too. Although the internet has marked these sites as places for writers to find work, there are several options available. From digital marketing to SEO, the sky is the limit.

How much does it cost to post a job on Upwork?

To sign up and post a job, it is free. However, after you have set up your listing to either a fixed price or hourly, the 3% processing fee is for the total amount of money you pay your clients.

Upwork Service Fee Requirements

Upwork does have service fee requirements, which are a sliding fee. The fee is based on your lifetime billings with each client (for all hourly and fixed-price contracts):

We charge a service fee, taken as a percentage of your earnings on Upwork. It is a sliding fee based on your lifetime billings with each client (across all hourly and fixed-price contracts).

You will be charged:

  • 20% for the first $500 you bill your client on all contracts you bill them
  • 10% for total billings with your client between $500.01 and $10,000
  • 5% for all total billings that exceed $10,000

For example, if you agree to a $1,000 price for a job with a new client, you will be billed 20% on the first $500 and 10% on the remaining $500. See www.upwork.com/legal#fees for all the details.

Upwork

As the quotation states above the more you earn the service fee is reduced.

Upwork Payment Methods

All of the payments made are with a secure service provided by Upwork. The payment methods with which you can receive your payment are all of the following:

  • PayPal
  • Direct Deposit/ACH
  • Wire Transfer
  • Local Funds Transfer (LFT)
  • Payoneer

Upwork has a fixed price protection code that ensures you will get paid for every hour of work you do. An hour of work done is an hour of work paid.

Common conundrums with Upwork

The site will not let you apply to any listing until and unless you have made an account and signed up. You can view some really juicy gigs, but that is it. They do this so that your credit score is in check. Do not worry because you will get free credits when you first sign up with them.

ProBlogger payment security

There is no payment security because the website is a platform for people to meet up and then make their own payment agreements.

The job postings are usually quite detailed about the type of work, whether it is on a contractual or freelance basis, payment method, and location.

ProBlogger service fee

At ProBlogger anyone applying for a job listing, there is no fee or payment required. You can apply to any job listing for free.

The employers on ProBlogger have to pay $70 for an ad and $140 for a premium ad for hiring writers. Writers applying to ProBlogger are not charged any extra money.

ProBlogger Payment methods

The payment methods vary according to what the job listings have put up as their payment options.

Pros of Upwork vs the cons

Here are the pros:

  • The best thing about Upwork is that the payment methods are secure, so if you are hired for any job, you will not have to worry about being scammed.
  • You can set your own rate on an hourly basis.
  • You can create your own profile for potential employers to find you more readily.
  • There are many different job categories to choose from, and it is easy to navigate the site.

Here are the cons:

  • You will be charged money for every job you get. Upwork will deduct less and less the more money you earn, but it will always be taken as a service fee.
  • You have to use 12-16 credits which cost 00.15$ each credit to apply to any job.
  • Your profile is disabled if you do not use credits to keep it up to date.
  • If you post a job listing, then 3% of the amount you pay to your employees is the outstanding service fee.

Pros of ProBlogger vs the cons

Here are the pros:

  • It is free to apply for any job.
  • You can apply to multiple employers at once.
  • The job board is never empty.
  • You can create your candidate profile for free.

Here are the cons:

  • The payment is not secure (because you are just matched up with prospective employers).
  • If you are listing a job, you will be charged a one time $70.
  • There are many job categories, but 90% of the listings are for writers.

What is better for you?

In the end, these are two very different websites, and it seems unjustified to compare them. So choose what suits you most. Do you want a secure and assured way in which you can earn your money? If the answer is yes, then make an account with Upwork. I must stress one little fact though, and that is that even the legitimacy of Upwork is questioned because some people ask for too much work at a low cost.

The requirements are 100% rich and unique content, and 300 blog posts at only a hundred dollars. Some people see this and think the entire website is a scam. The fact is that because a hundred dollars in India is a lot of money, many people from similar economic regions would be happy to take the job.

So look at the hourly wage and or budget for the job listing and then apply accordingly.

ProBlogger is similar and you will have to sift through the job listings to find what you want.

Another comparison is that there is more variety of different types of jobs at Upwork. Naturally, they charge you for transactions because they do a lot to keep the website professional.

Final thoughts

I have an account with both sites, and I hope that we all agree that both websites are completely legitimate. Please do not use the opinions of some negative remarks made on Reddit to form your opinion. Try out the sites for yourself to form your own opinion.

I do hope that this post was helpful and if you have any questions feel free to ask me in the comments.
